OUR STORY
Aloha, we moved to the Big Island of Hawaii 11 years ago looking for an adventure of a lifetime. Leaving our successful jobs and good life in Tennnessee, needless to say, our friends and family thought we were crazy! We had no idea how we were going to be able to afford to stay longterm on the island, but we had faith we would figure it out. Soon realizing how difficult it is to find work here, we worked odd jobs our first year, then one of us started working at a macadamia nut processing plant full time. After a while we began to wonder how this big, beautiful, rich and buttery nut would taste in the family’s century-old peanut brittle recipe. As we made the first batch of macadamia nut brittle and poured out the molten hot candy, it began to bubble and slowly cover the pan. Looking like a lava flow as it moved, we finally tasted it after cooling. Amazed at how much different and (WAY) better it tasted with macadamia nuts, we immediately said, “OMG.... this is AMAZING and it's going to bee out new business and we can call it Lava Candy!” We had just started beekeeping a few months earlier after a friend caught us a wild bee swarm, so we tried adding our honey to the recipe and it got even better! We began by giving it to friends, asking them for feedback and everyone was like, “Heck ya, that's ONO, I would pay money for that, it's the best macnut brittle I've ever had!!” So excited, we began the process of creating our very own candy business! It took us years to perfect it, but we started selling it at local farmer’s markets in March 2017, and now years later we are being sold in 9 different businesses around the island! Have quite the online business too which is surprising to us but so humbled you think our candy is worth the shipping fee. Thankful for our success and now job security, we can stay here and enjoy the simple, slow-paced, beautiful island life. As long as Pele lets us that is... the 2018 volcanic eruption was so large and quite traumatic for our island. But, that’s part of the magic here, constant creation and change in one of the most beautiful places on this Earth. We have worked very hard to be where we are now and a day does not pass without acknowledging how very blessed we are. We are thankful for your support and orders, sharing our product with friends/family and co-workers! We lava you-)
Our Product
It started with Big Grandma’s (our great great grandmother!) peanut brittle recipe from Arkansas that is over 100 years old. We replaced peanuts with 100% Hawaiian macadamia nuts, the best nut in the world, most delicious nut in the world. The volcanic soil/lava rock help make Hawaii Island macadamia nuts world-renowned. We harvest fresh, delicious, organic, raw organic tropical flower honey from our farm’s beehives. Only the highest quality ingredients are added to create our amazing macadamia nut brittle. No preservatives or additives, only the best ingredients! We make it in small batches, one pan at a time to preserve its unique, light and airy texture. This isn’t like most of the hard, mass-produced sweet brittles on the market today and you can taste the difference! We want to share it with everyone around the world, which is happening as tourists come here from all over. It’s such a pleasure watching faces light up after tasting a free sample.
